Car insurance: Getting cheap car insurance guide
In today's world, finding the best and cheapest car insurance is always a challenge. Television ads with cartoons, geckos, and happy people are just a few of the gimmicks to get you to buy car insurance. One even brags that they will tell you other agencies that provide cheaper insurance. So, a venture was started to find cheap car insurance.
Now you can go online and shop around in the comfort of your own home and get cheap car insurance quotes or at the very least, free car insurance quotes at pretty much any website you visit. This could take some time and after a few hours of going to all the different websites, you may find the cheapest.
But, another option might be to choose a websites that will search different companies for you so you can compare and see "at-a-glance" which coverage is for you. Either way, here are a few tips on getting cheap car insurance:
- Make sure you know your vehicle. One site asked if the vehicle had AWD. It took a moment to find out they meant "All Wheel Drive". If it has any safety features (ex. driver and passenger side air bags, anti-lock brakes, etc) this will reduce the bottom line, but you need to let them know when getting your free car insurance quote, not afterwards. One thing to also note, if your vehicle has four-wheel drive it is more expensive than a two-wheel drive.
- Try and keep your daily commute lower than 10 miles. If you can't, try and keep it lower than 40 miles. Each mile you travel away from home increases your chance of getting into an accident and increases you bottom line also.
- Have an anti-theft device or a tracking system installed on your car. Anti-theft devices reduce chances of your vehicle being stolen. Tracking systems increase your chances of getting your vehicle back in a timely manner and hopefully still in good shape if stolen.
- Choose to have a deductible. Even if you choose a $250, your premiums will be reduced and if you choose a higher deductible your premiums will be reduced even further. But remember, in the event you have and accident, you will have to pay that deductible in order to have your car fixed.
- Collision Coverage. Older vehicles will only be replaced by "Book" value, so you may not need collision coverage on that one.
- Find out which driver is cheaper. If you have another adult driver in the house it may be smart to find out which driver will be the cheapest as the primary driver and remember, teens always drive the "safer" vehicle, not the sports car.
- Don't choose extras, if possible. If you have a new car, you are probably covered with road-side assistance, so you don't need that extra. But, if your vehicle is on it's last leg, you may need towing. It is up to you about the extras to alleviate as many extras to keep down the final insurance quote.
- Driving record. The number one reason you pay so much in car insurance is your past driving record. Learn to slow down and allow plenty of time to arrive at your destination. Avoid collisions by being a defensive driver and if you have had a problematic driving history, try taking a defensive driving class to learn how to avoid possible deadly collisions. In the long run, it will save you hundreds on your car insurance and some companies will even pay you for good driving.
- Belonging to an organization. Don't forget that organization of which you are a member. Some car insurance companies offer special discounts because you are part of an organization or have group health insurance.
- Good Credit history. Yes, some insurance companies are now looking at a person credit history to make sure you are going to make that insurance payment on time too.
These tips on getting cheap car insurance may not be everything you want to hear, but they should help you down the road with a little more money in your pocket and not in the pocket of the insurance companies.
